NEIL YOUNG Chrome Dreams II Continental Tour (Oct. 18 - Dec. 19, 2007) Acoustic Compilation Quite some time ago when the first real good recordings of Neil Young's recent tour surfaced I got the idea to put together a compilation of all acoustic songs that he did perform. So I started choo- sing the first songs and remastering to give them the best sound possible (at least, in my ears). Now that the tour is finished I put together this compilation of all 23 acoustic songs that Neil Young performed between Oct. 18 and Dec. 219, 2007 (one song, i.e. "A Man Needs A Maid") is contained here twice as he played that song in two different versions. This compilation is quite different from the one Dironstarr put together in as much I concentrated my work on the acoustic songs. I didn't try to give an overview on all venues played but focused on the shows that seemed the best sound recordings (i.e. Spokane on 2007-10-20, Chicago [loge source] on 2007-11-13 and Upper Darby on 2007-12-09). And all songs are carefully remastered ! What did I do ? First of all I removed some very loud hand claps close to the taper on some songs (mostly in the beginning of these songs when the audience recogni- zes what Neil Young is going to play and at the transition between the end of the song and the applause). These hand claps a very short (less than a one hundred of a second) and could be removed without af- fecting the music. But they produce some unwanted peaks of the recording level, i.e. with those hand claps you can maximize the level of the music in a proper way. Next step was to maximize the recording level. Most recordings had the level of the music much lower than the applause. I've tried to get the music at least as loud as the applause. I left the applause (with a few exceptions) untouched so that when the applause ends the next song starts. In this way the compi- lation should work like one continuous concert (I've checked the finished recording twice with my head- phones and IMHO it works fine). The last step was to normalize each track on the lowest possible level to bring the instrument and the vocals a little bit more upfront. That has nothing to do with the over compressed recordings that some bootleg labels (Tarantura a.o.) recently released or with the compressed broadcasts that some FM radio stations nowadays prefer. So I hope everyone will enjoy this compilation as much as I do ! I will post some samples in the comments section. Warning: If you are a fan of raw, untouched recordings don't download this ! A special thanks to Roel van Dijk from Rustradio. Without his marvellous tour chart (www.rustradio.org/chart/php) putting together this compilation would have been much more diffult. Compiled, remastered and edited by CHerrmann57 (December 2007). Merry Xmas to all Rusties around the globe. See you in Berlin in February 2008 ! PS: I'm firewalled so it will take some unfirewalled leechers in the beginning before the upload speeds up !
